He didn’t want to take his disabled wife to the corporate party — but she herself stepped onto the stage as the owner of the company and ruined his career.

Ethan Rowt was considered one of the most promising young executives at Summit Core Industries. Charming, confident, always impeccably dressed—the colleagues admired him, and management saw in him the future vice president.

He always brought his best, and success seemed to come naturally to him. However, behind this polished exterior lay a dark secret: his wife, Clara, who had been confined to a wheelchair three years earlier after a serious accident, had for years financed Ethan’s MBA and then used their family fortune to ensure his career soared.

As Ethan climbed higher, he increasingly forgot the one without whom he could never have achieved any of it.The annual Summit Core Industries gala was one of the brightest events in the business world, where everyone awaited the name of the next vice president.

Ethan was sure the title would be his and had been preparing for the big moment weeks in advance. That evening, as he adjusted his tuxedo in front of the mirror, Clara quietly stepped beside him. Her shiny red dress caught the light, and the soft tinkling of her diamond earrings accompanied every movement.

“Darling… can I come with you? I haven’t been anywhere in a long time, and I want to see you being recognized. I even bought a beautiful red dress,” she said in a soft, hopeful voice.Ethan’s face froze, a look of cold disdain in his eyes. He responded sarcastically, “You’d just be a distraction among important people.”

Clara tried to reason gently but firmly: “I am your wife. I want to be by your side, as I always have been.” But Ethan wouldn’t budge. His voice was cold and unfeeling: “How could I be proud of you if you’re in a wheelchair? I need a woman who can walk beside me, not one who needs help with every step.”

Clara remained silent, tears quietly streaming down her face, while Ethan calmly left the apartment, leaving behind the red dress. That evening, the ballroom glittered with lights, and Ethan arrived with his secretary, Natalie, laughing and loudly declaring that he had finally rid himself of his “ex-wife,”

unaware that someone had overheard everything backstage. As the room quieted, the CEO stepped onto the stage. Ethan waited excitedly but self-satisfied for his name to be announced. However, the hushed murmurs of the room brought an unexpected twist. The CEO’s voice rang clearly:

“Many do not fully know the person without whom Summit Core Industries would not be what it is today. We are grateful to the one who owns sixty percent of the company. Please welcome the Chairwoman of the Board—Clara Row-Montoya!”

The curtains slowly opened, revealing Clara in the spotlight. Her red dress gleamed, her diamonds sparkled, and every step exuded determination. Ethan’s heart stopped when he saw the wine glass slip from his hand and shatter on the floor.

Clara calmly took the microphone, commanding the attention of the entire room. “Many do not know me. Those who are seen as inconvenient by others are often overlooked. Tonight, one person said I had no place at this event because I cannot stand on my own two feet,” she said, her voice full of strength and dignity.

Ethan trembled as he went up on stage, trying to approach, but Clara coldly rebuffed him: “Do not touch me. The vice presidency you expected has already gone to someone else.”Ethan fell to his knees, begging for forgiveness, but Clara continued: “Who paid for your studies? Me. Who helped you secure this position? Me.

Who picked out your tuxedo? Me.” As Chairwoman of the Board, she immediately suspended Ethan Rowt for ethical violations and added, “You are dismissed. My divorce attorney is waiting at the exit. Sign the papers and leave by midnight.”

Clara left the stage with dignity. Though confined to a wheelchair, that night she was the strongest person in the entire room. All eyes were on her—not just because she owned the company, but because she had created a moment of truth and dignity:

the man who had claimed the success was finally confronted with the consequences of his actions.
